There are loads of surprises hidden inside the modules of Yogi Flight School. One of my favorites is the super cool, fun, exciting poses that many people have never seen before.
When most people think about arm balances, we typically have a few common poses that come to mind - crow, headstand, handstand, pincha mayurasana (forearm stand), and otherwise they envision some crazy shape that they aren’t even sure how to make sense of, or what to call it.
Yes, that’s what we’re talking about in today’s blog...the crazy shapes! AND they’re all taught, step-by-step, from the ground up, INSIDE Yogi Flight School.
This is a fun headstand variation, categorized by the hands coming off the floor and anchoring behind your shoulders. It requires you to balance on your head and elbows. There are endless variations for the positioning of the legs - an opportunity to get imaginative and play!
Fallen angel lands in our revolved arm balances category. In this pose, you are balancing on a single arm, with one leg fully extended towards the sky above you and the head hovering just above the mat.
Ahhh! What a joyful pose this one is! Sometimes referred to as dragonfly pose, and other times as grasshopper pose, this hip-opening arm balance is an impressive feat (...and completely within reach!)
If you’re a yoga practitioner, you’ve probably made your way into a lizard pose once or twice in your life. This flying version of the pose asks you to hook your front leg around and under your arm and lift your back leg, hinged at the knee, toes pointed up.
Part eka pada bakasana (one-legged crow), part pincha mayurasana (forearm stand), anyone? A truly aesthetically pleasing pose, this funky crow pincha pose is just waiting to be unlocked by you.
